Yippee Farms, LLC, a dairy operation in Pennsylvania, was found to have sold a bob veal calf for slaughter in March 2021 that contained drug residues of meloxicam and sulfadimethoxine in kidney tissue, for which FDA has established no tolerance levels in bovine tissue. The company failed to maintain complete treatment records for the animal, with employees not documenting the administration of these medications on the pen treatment record, resulting in the calf being sold before the required meat withdrawal time for the prescription drug meloxicam had elapsed. This violation demonstrated that the firm's inadequate record-keeping practices allowed medicated animals bearing potentially harmful drug residues to enter the food supply. The company did not respond to the FDA 483 inspectional observations issued at the close of the inspection.
