Jap Inc. dba Intercontinental Foods, a food importer in Bellingham, Washington, failed to develop, maintain, and follow a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) for imported food products including various tea brands (Brooke Bond Taj Mahal, Brooke Bond Red Label Tea, and Lipton Yellow Label Tea), in violation of section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and 21 CFR part 1, subpart L. The FDA conducted inspections on March 8-9, 2022 (with prior inspections in November 2018 and March 2021), and found the company was not performing the required risk-based activities to verify that imported foods met applicable U.S. food safety standards. The company did not respond to the Form FDA 483a observations issued at the conclusion of the March 2022 inspection.
