Manzanola Feeds, LLC was warned for manufacturing adulterated animal feed after FDA found preformed Clostridium botulinum toxin type C and animal hair in their "Top of the Rockies Horse Cubes," which was linked to a multi-state outbreak causing approximately 52 equine deaths. During an inspection conducted from December 2022 to February 2023, FDA identified significant violations of Current Good Manufacturing Practice and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls regulations under 21 CFR Part 507. The contamination posed serious adverse health consequences and death to horses consuming the product, and the company had already initiated a voluntary recall of five affected lots in December 2022.
