YemenUSA Inc., a food importer in Detroit, failed to establish a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) for black pepper powder and raisins imported from Yassin Spices in Yemen, violating section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. An FDA inspection conducted May 4-14, 2021 found that the company did not develop, maintain, or follow any FSVP as required under 21 CFR part 1, subpart L to verify that imported foods met applicable U.S. food safety standards. The company had not responded to the Form FDA 483a observations provided at the conclusion of the inspection.
