Minuti Coffee LLC, a Houston-based coffee importer, failed to comply with the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) regulation required under the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. During an FDA inspection conducted May 12-20, 2022, investigators found that the company did not develop, maintain, and follow an FSVP plan as mandated by regulation 21 CFR part 1, subpart L, which requires importers to verify that imported foods meet applicable U.S. food safety standards. The company did not respond to the FDA's Form FDA 483a observations issued on May 20, 2022, or to a subsequent compliance inquiry sent via email on June 6, 2022, despite stating during the inspection closeout that it would consult with a third-party food safety specialist to develop an FSVP plan.
