Alternative Health Distribution LLC d/b/a CannaAid sold unapproved cannabidiol (CBD) products through its website with claims that they could mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19, violating section 505(a) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. The products were also misbranded under section 502 of the FD&C Act because they lacked required FDA approval and made unauthorized disease claims. The FDA and FTC jointly reviewed the company's website in October 2022 during the COVID-19 public health emergency, when the agency was actively targeting unapproved products making pandemic-related health claims.
