The HCG Institute sold unapproved and misbranded compounded semaglutide products over the internet, violating the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act sections 502(a) and 502(bb). The company made false or misleading claims on its website stating the compounded semaglutide was "FDA-inspected," "clinically proven" for weight loss, and equivalent to FDA-approved products like Ozempic, despite compounded drugs not being FDA-approved. These misrepresentations caused the products to be unlawfully introduced into interstate commerce in violation of section 301(a) of the FDCA. The FDA reviewed the company's website in August 2025 and identified these violations through examination of the product claims and promotional materials.
