Dasada Group LLC, a food importer based in Houston, Texas, failed to develop and maintain a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) for imported fresh produce including Dominico bananas, habanero peppers, and plantains, in violation of section 805 of the FD&C Act and 21 CFR part 1 subpart L. During inspections conducted in December 2022 and June 2024, the FDA found that the company had not implemented any FSVP for the foods it imported, despite this being a regulatory requirement for importers to verify that foreign-produced food meets U.S. food safety standards. The company also failed to respond to a Form FDA 483a FSVP Observations issued at the conclusion of the June 2024 inspection.
