Ikal LLC, a food importer based in San Diego, failed to comply with Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) requirements under 21 CFR Part 1, Subpart L for avocados and other foods imported into the United States. During FDA inspections conducted in April-May 2023 and previously in May 2021, the company demonstrated significant violations of section 805 of the FD&C Act, including inadequate verification procedures to ensure imported foods met applicable U.S. food safety standards. Although the company acknowledged hiring a consultant and enrolling in FSVP training in response to the FDA's initial observations, these remedial efforts were deemed insufficient at the time of the warning letter issuance.
