Embryll Life Sciences, Inc. marketed Lanomax®, an unapproved new animal drug claimed to treat cataracts in animals, in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The company promoted the product on its website (lanomax.com) with therapeutic claims such as "the only eye drop on the planet currently that has a real therapeutic effect on cataracts," despite the product never being determined by FDA to be safe and effective for this use. The violation was particularly concerning because no FDA-approved eye drops exist for treating cataracts in animals, creating risk that animal owners would forgo appropriate veterinary care in favor of this unproven treatment.
