ADM Animal Nutrition's vitamin and mineral premix manufacturing facility was cited for significant violations of Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls requirements under 21 CFR Part 507, causing their animal food products to be adulterated. The violations were identified during a March 2023 inspection that followed a Class I recall initiated in February 2023 after consumers reported illness linked to elevated vitamin D levels in prescription diet dry dog food containing the company's AA Diet preblend. The facility had filed multiple Reportable Food Registry reports documenting the elevated vitamin D contamination across several product lots before the FDA inspection occurred.
