California Bread Co. was cited for significant violations of Current Good Manufacturing Practice and Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls regulations (21 CFR Part 117) discovered during a facility inspection from October through November 2023. The company's Egg Bread product was found to be adulterated due to an unsafe color additive, and multiple products were determined to be misbranded due to labeling violations under 21 CFR Part 101. The FDA determined that the company failed to implement required preventive controls at its Chula Vista, California manufacturing facility in violation of section 301(uu) of the Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
