Kareem Mart Inc., a food and beverage importer, failed to comply with Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) requirements under section 805 of the FD&C Act for multiple products including Hummus with Tahina, Halwa with Pistachios, and Sesame Breadsticks imported from foreign suppliers. During inspections conducted between November 2020 and January 2021, the FDA found that the company did not have adequate FSVPs in place for several of their imported products and could not demonstrate compliance with risk-based verification activities required to ensure imported food met U.S. safety standards. The company claimed to qualify as a very small importer but still failed to meet the applicable compliance obligations for that classification.
