Wailea Agricultural Group, Inc. was warned for producing adulterated hearts of palm under insanitary conditions in violation of the Produce Safety regulation (21 CFR Part 112). FDA inspectors found that the company's agricultural water used for hand washing and cleaning food contact surfaces tested positive for E. coli, failed to meet microbial quality standards, and the company did not immediately discontinue use of the contaminated water as required. The inspection also identified the company's failure to ensure no detectable E. coli was present in 100 ml of agricultural water used during or after harvest operations.
