JJR Global Inc., a food and beverage importer, failed to comply with the Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) regulation required under section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. During an August 2023 inspection, the FDA identified significant violations of 21 CFR part 1 subpart L, finding that the company did not perform adequate risk-based activities to verify that imported foods met applicable U.S. food safety standards. Although the company responded to FDA observations stating it would develop FSVPs and visit foreign suppliers, it failed to provide documentation demonstrating the specific steps taken to achieve compliance. This was a repeat issue, as the company had also been inspected for FSVP compliance in 2021 and 2018.
