Indian Groceries and Spices, Inc. failed to develop, maintain, and follow a required Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) for imported food products including cumin seeds, chili powder, and mung beans, in violation of section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. During FDA inspections conducted between June and July 2023, the company was found to have no FSVP in place for any of the foods it imported, despite this being a mandatory requirement to verify that imported foods meet U.S. food safety standards. The company did not respond to the FDA's Form 483a observations issued on July 21, 2023, compounding the compliance failures identified during the inspection.
