Ulrich Farms, a dairy operation in Wisconsin, was cited for selling an animal for slaughter with illegal drug residues that rendered it adulterated for human consumption. During an October 2021 inspection, the FDA found that a cow sold in May 2021 contained ampicillin residues at 0.08 ppm in kidney tissue, exceeding the established tolerance of 0.01 ppm for cattle edible tissues. The violation stemmed from extralabel use of the new animal drug that created unsafe residue levels. Additionally, the FDA identified that the farm held animals under insanitary conditions that could have rendered food products injurious to health.
