Shoplet was cited for selling triclosan-containing antimicrobial lotion soaps (Ameriderm AmeriWash products) that the FDA determined were unapproved new drugs introduced into interstate commerce in violation of sections 505(a) and 301(d) of the FD&C Act. The products were also found to be misbranded under section 502(ee) of the FD&C Act, as their labeling made disease claims such as "kills bacteria on contact" that established them as drugs rather than cosmetics. The company had not obtained FDA approval for these products before offering them for sale on its website.
