Iotech International, LLC sold unapproved new drugs—ioRinse and ioCleanse Molecular Iodine Hand Cleanser—through its website and social media platforms with claims that these products could mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19 in people, violating section 505(a) of the FD&C Act. The products were also misbranded drugs under section 502(ee) of the FD&C Act, and their introduction into interstate commerce was prohibited. The FDA and FTC jointly reviewed the company's website on multiple occasions between July 2021 and March 2022, identifying these violations during the COVID-19 public health emergency.
