Disinfect & Shield was cited for selling unapproved DISINFECT™ & SHIELD HAND SANITIZER products with claims that they mitigate, prevent, treat, diagnose, or cure COVID-19, violating section 505(a) of the FD&C Act. The products were also determined to be misbranded drugs under sections 502(a) and (ee) of the FD&C Act. The FDA took enforcement action during the COVID-19 public health emergency and national emergency declarations to protect consumers from unapproved products making disease claims without FDA authorization.
