UCC Ueshima Coffee Company America Inc. failed to establish Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVPs) for three ready-to-drink beverage products: UCC black coffee, UCC green tea, and UCC Hawaii Kona coffee imported from foreign suppliers. During inspections conducted between May 2018 and September 2020, the FDA found the company was not in compliance with section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and 21 CFR part 1 subpart L, which require importers to perform risk-based verification activities to ensure imported food meets U.S. food safety standards. The company had submitted FSVP records electronically to the FDA but lacked the required verification programs for these specific products.
