Countryside Feed LLC was warned for manufacturing adulterated animal feed after its "Lamb Builder 16% Lamb Creep" sheep food contained excessive copper at 31.0 ppm, more than double the safe maximum of 15 ppm, causing acute toxicity and resulting in multiple sheep deaths. FDA's April 2022 inspection found significant violations of Hazard Analysis and Risk-Based Preventive Controls requirements under 21 CFR Part 507, which failed to prevent the copper contamination. The warning followed prior inspections by the Kansas Department of Agriculture in November and December 2021 that were prompted by consumer complaints of suspected copper poisoning, and the company had already initiated a voluntary Class I recall in November 2021.
