Selamta LLC, a food importer based in Georgia, failed to establish a Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) for Black Tea imported from Ethiopia and other food products, in violation of section 805 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and 21 CFR part 1 subpart L. During a remote inspection in January-February 2021, FDA found that the company had no FSVP documentation or compliance measures in place to verify that imported foods met U.S. food safety standards. Although the company acknowledged the violation in its February 2021 response and committed to implementing an FSVP within four to six months, it had not yet provided an actual FSVP plan at the time of the warning letter.
