Hainan Golden Spring Foods Co. Ltd., a Chinese seafood processor, was found to have serious violations of seafood Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) regulations during an FDA inspection in December 2021, rendering their reduced oxygen packaged frozen tilapia fillets and whole tilapia products adulterated. The firm failed to have and implement a compliant HACCP plan as required by 21 CFR Part 123, and their January 2022 response with a revised HACCP plan was deemed inadequate upon FDA evaluation. The adulterated products were deemed prepared, packed, or held under conditions whereby they may have been rendered injurious to health.
